THE EGGCELL

The starting point is an artistic and research-based exploration of the female egg cell (OVA) as a biological, cultural and technological symbol. Over the course of the project, the original research question was explored in greater depth and extended to include historical, media-related and societal systems of representation. Alongside digital visualisations and audiovisual performances, analogue forms of representation were incorporated, including scientific scans, historical educational charts, schematic diagrams and imagery from the history of medicine. These materials served as visual points of comparison for contemporary technologies such as ultrasound, CTG birth technologies and data-based visualisations. The project evolved into a transdisciplinary research format at the intersection of artistic practice, visual research and feminist critique of science.
